Our big success started as a college gig. In 1988, Darrell New began a dry cleaning delivery service for busy professionals in downtown Orlando, Florida. At the time, he was completing a major in Finance at the University of Central Florida, and planned to work in the financial services industry. The dry cleaning delivery business was fun, easy, and lucrative, so he continued operations after graduation.
By 1993 Darrell, his wife Shannon Toler, and his brother Nathan New had three full-sized vans servicing the greater Orlando area with convenient dry cleaning pickup and delivery. As the business boomed, they prepared to expand the business beyond Florida, and combining their simple business model with low-cost franchising was the obvious choice.
Just six years after selling their first franchise, Darrell, Shannon and Nathan were invited to join the Service Brands International family of franchise companies that now includes Molly Maid, Mr. Handyman, and ProTect Painters. The decision to accept the invitation was easy, and they immediately moved to SBI headquarters in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Today, Shannon is President of 1-800-DryClean, Darrell is Vice President, and Nathan serves as the Operations Manager of their nationally renowned company. They provide training and support to more than 100 franchises, offering owners an abundance of family-friendly business benefits including recurring, predictable cash flow; financial security; self-made hours; and the fulfillment that comes with personal success.
